Bauhaus Watches by ADVOLAT: Form Follows Function

The principle “form follows function”, which is well known among designers, made the German Bauhaus one of the most important art movements of the 20th century and ultimately also influenced the design of the watch industry.

Today, Bauhaus signifies minimalist, straightforward design that has been reduced to the essentials. In Bauhaus watches, this becomes evident through features like high contrast black and white dial coloring, Arabic numerals, or just indices, as well as slim hands and the omission of anything unnecessary on the watch case. Basic geometrical shapes – triangle, square, and circle – combined with primary colors like red, blue, and yellow are also very typical of Bauhaus design watches, and have been perfectly captured in the brand new ADVOLAT BAUHAUS 3 Disc-O watch series.

ADVOLAT watches are not strictly divided into men's and women's watches. Everyone should wear what they want, when they want. With this in mind, all ADVOLAT Bauhaus watches are unisex and available in various sizes between 38 and 44mm in diameter. Since these sizes are still too bulky for some delicate women's wrists, we have developed the new BAUHAUS 1 Lady. Its case has a diameter of only 32mm and wraps the wrist with a bracelet made of soft calf hide or a fine Milanese mesh bracelet. The BAUHAUS 1 Lady comes in the classic Bauhaus design, available in the classic colors black, white, gold and silver. The slim bezel allows for a relatively large dial diameter, even at small case sizes. A stylish ladies’ watch for work and leisure.

Famous artist Wassily Kandinsky said: “Everything starts from a dot.” With the BAUHAUS 3 Disc-O, we have gone to the limit in reductionist Bauhaus watch design. In the “Disc-O points”, the display consists of concentric circles only, with two silver dots floating freely above the black dial, indicating hours and minutes, nothing else. More minimalist style would mean removing function. The “Disc-O colours” incorporates basic colors and shapes: a blue circle marks the center point, while a yellow triangle and a red square indicate the time. Bauhaus watch design does not get any purer. All BAUHAUS Disc-O models embody a highest-quality SWISS MADE movement, and like always, the Disc-O style dial is optimally protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

The BAUHAUS 2 Chronograph and Classic collections by ADVOLAT may proudly display the label “SWISS MADE” on their dials, because they meet the very strict criteria demanded by the Swiss Watch Association. By far not the only, but the most important criterion is that such watches may only have a Swiss Made movement. All BAUHAUS 2 Classic watches contain a high-quality and time-proven RONDA 515 movement. The BAUHAUS chronographs are equipped with gold plated Swiss RONDA 5030.D movements. Given this, obviously, Swiss Made BAUHAUS watches are a bit more expensive than their counterparts, which are equipped with movements of Japanese origin, but otherwise quite comparable in high quality. The BAUHAUS 2 watch case has been designed in a very minimalist style, made out of matt stainless steel, optionally coated in black or gold, or rose gold.
