Bauhaus watches from ADVOLAT: minimalist design at its best
Today, Bauhaus watches are more popular than ever before. To understand their no-frills design, let's take a look at the beginnings of this stylistic period, going back a bit more than 100 years. Walter Gropius came up with the idea of bringing art and craft together, trying to bring functionality in architecture back into focus. With this goal in mind, he founded the German Weimar Bauhaus art school back in 1919.
"We want to create the purely organic building, boldly emanating its inner laws, free of untruths or ornamentation."
Walter Gropius, architect and founder of the German Bauhaus movement
What is a Bauhaus watch?
The principle “form follows function”, which is well known among designers, made the German Bauhaus one of the most important art movements of the 20th century and ultimately also influenced the design of the watch industry.
Today, Bauhaus signifies minimalist, straightforward design that has been reduced to the essentials. In Bauhaus watches, this becomes evident through features like high contrast black and white dial coloring, Arabic numerals, or just indices, as well as slim hands and the omission of anything unnecessary on the watch case. Basic geometrical shapes – triangle, square, and circle – combined with primary colors like red, blue, and yellow are also very typical of Bauhaus design watches, and have been perfectly captured in the brand new ADVOLAT BAUHAUS 3 Disc-O watch series.
Bauhaus watches from ADVOLAT
ADVOLAT offers Bauhaus watches in five different collections. All watch designs are limited to 888 pieces worldwide and are individually numbered. In addition, every Bauhaus watch from ADVOLAT has a cover glass made of high-quality sapphire crystal and is water-resistant to at least 5 ATM or 50 meters. Our most competitive models are equipped with a high-quality Citizen Miyota movement and cost less than € 200. SWISS MADE Bauhaus watches with Swiss movements from Ronda in Lausen are available at price starting from € 229 to well over € 500.
Our special Bauhaus ladies’ watches collection
ADVOLAT watches are not strictly divided into men's and women's watches. Everyone should wear what they want, when they want. With this in mind, all ADVOLAT Bauhaus watches are unisex and available in various sizes between 38 and 44mm in diameter. Since these sizes are still too bulky for some delicate women's wrists, we have developed the new BAUHAUS 1 Lady. Its case has a diameter of only 32mm and wraps the wrist with a bracelet made of soft calf hide or a fine Milanese mesh bracelet. The BAUHAUS 1 Lady comes in the classic Bauhaus design, available in the classic colors black, white, gold and silver. The slim bezel allows for a relatively large dial diameter, even at small case sizes. A stylish ladies’ watch for work and leisure.
The unique Milanese bracelet from ADVOLAT
Conventional Milanese bracelets are usually equipped with a buckle mechanism which is not very finger or nail friendly. In order to make handling so much more comfortable, the ADVOLAT Milanese bracelets are equipped with a highly innovative, infinitely variable magnetic buckle. Unlike other watch straps which have preset adjustments, this one can be adjusted to any length. The watch is put watch on and off in a breeze. Our sophisticated ADVOLAT Anti Magnetic Shield protects the watch from the magnetic field of the buckle, which would normally stop the movement or impede its accuracy. The new, unique ADVOLAT Milanese bracelets are available in silver, gold, rosé, or black colors, so they match any Bauhaus model.
Bauhaus watch design, straight to the point: The BAUHAUS 3 Disc-O
Famous artist Wassily Kandinsky said: “Everything starts from a dot.” With the BAUHAUS 3 Disc-O, we have gone to the limit in reductionist Bauhaus watch design. In the “Disc-O points”, the display consists of concentric circles only, with two silver dots floating freely above the black dial, indicating hours and minutes, nothing else. More minimalist style would mean removing function. The “Disc-O colours” incorporates basic colors and shapes: a blue circle marks the center point, while a yellow triangle and a red square indicate the time. Bauhaus watch design does not get any purer. All BAUHAUS Disc-O models embody a highest-quality SWISS MADE movement, and like always, the Disc-O style dial is optimally protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
ADVOLAT Bauhaus Chronograph
The most popular Bauhaus watch from ADVOLAT is the Bauhaus Chronograph. Featured in the lifestyle blog www.dmarge.com as one of the best men's watches under € 500 worldwide. There are two models here: the entry-level BAUHAUS 1 chronograph with a Citizen Miyota OS00 movement, and the BAUHAUS 2 chronograph, which contains a gold-plated RONDA 5030.D chronograph movement, and prides itself on being SWISS MADE. The chronographs are available in different variations with different dials as well as leather straps and stainless steel Milanese mesh bracelets in matching colors.
SWISS MADE Bauhaus watches from ADVOLAT
The BAUHAUS 2 Chronograph and Classic collections by ADVOLAT may proudly display the label “SWISS MADE” on their dials, because they meet the very strict criteria demanded by the Swiss Watch Association. By far not the only, but the most important criterion is that such watches may only have a Swiss Made movement. All BAUHAUS 2 Classic watches contain a high-quality and time-proven RONDA 515 movement. The BAUHAUS chronographs are equipped with gold plated Swiss RONDA 5030.D movements. Given this, obviously, Swiss Made BAUHAUS watches are a bit more expensive than their counterparts, which are equipped with movements of Japanese origin, but otherwise quite comparable in high quality. The BAUHAUS 2 watch case has been designed in a very minimalist style, made out of matt stainless steel, optionally coated in black or gold, or rose gold.
